How do I… help rough sleepers

Homeless people have a hard life, so how can we help them? We read an article in the Guardian about how we can help rough sleepers.  " Should I give money? ". The most common answer is no! Why? If you give money to people on the streets it can make there life worse. Many people living on the streets want to forget about the fact that they are homeless so they buy drugs and alcohol with the money. What you can do is at least acknowledge them or even better give them food, just try not the give them money.  We are told to offer people sleeping rough food or a drink, or at the very least,  make some sort of  acknowledgement. It's hard being homeless and we should help people with no home.
                              Dossing down in doorways

So many people are living without a home. The article talks about the number of people who are homeless and reasons how they became without a home. "over two-fifths of men hit the street". So many men are on the streets but why? Some people have lost their jobs and wife's so have no money or any comfort. Another reason is that they have some mental illness. Many women too are left on the streets for similar reasons. "over a third of the women sleeping rough". As well as being left many people go though abuse so leave there home in order to get a better life. The number of people who are homeless is increasing

Homelessness paragraph

How do I... Help rough sleepers

The story of link is similar to to the article but there are also lots of differences. One of those is that link begs for money only to survive whereas other people buy drugs and alcohol with the money. In the book "Stone Cold" the character Link wasn't forced to leave but his stepfather wanted him to leave and Link thought it would be better if he did leave home. Link did not have any mental illnesses or wasn't left by his parents. In the story they sweeten the real horrors of being homeless. In real life not many people make friends and people don't give enough money to survive.  The story of Link is similar to to the article but there are many big differences.

2nd verse parahagraphs

Para 3
The poet uses metaphors constantly in the poem. "Witness to that deepest night." The poet combines two metaphors in one to strengthen the effect of it. The poet transfers the quality of a deep night to the depths of the ocean. The poet also transfers the quality of a witness to the tuna fish. This is a way of describing the ocean. The metaphor is describing what the tuna has been through, in terms of the ocean. The poet uses two combined metaphors to make the sentence really powerful.

Para 4
Metaphors transfer a quality from one thing to another. The poet uses a metaphor to describe the surroundings of the fish. Surrounded by the earths green froth - These lettuces, bunches of carrots - In this example the poet transverse a the quality of green froth to vegetables.  these examples are, setting the scene and describing the surroundings of the tuna using a metaphor. Metaphors are very useful for describing and transferring a quality from one thing to another.

Para 5
Getting Pablo Neruda's idea of the ocean across is very clear to the reader. In the second verse paragraph the poet uses listing to describe the ocean. Only you lived through the seas truth, Survived the Unknown, The unfathomable darkness. These are all ways of describing the ocean. Pablo Neruda uses listing to describe the ocean affectively and he describes how amazing he thinks the tuna is because the fish has survived so much. Listing is a very powerful literary device because it emphasises the subject a lot, in this case the ocean.

Para 6
These 3 examples are linked to the paragraph before where the poet used listing. The poet uses other languages in the poem to get his point across really strong. The depths of the sea. This is saying that the tuna swam to the bottom of the ocean, as deep as you can go. The great abyss, Le grand abîme. These two sentences are saying exactly the same thing just in another language. This is emphasising how much the poet wants to express his idea, especially to write it in another language.

Laundrette parahagraph

                                Lonely and lost

The last stanza in the poem laundrette is a negative stanza. You can tell this because of the words like: dour, half lost, small, cast off and flotsam. These are all words that set a negative mood to this stanza.  " This dour man does for himself ." This sentence is says that the man is only washing his clothes. The word dour means that the person always looks upset even if they aren't. In this sentence it's uses dour to describe the man although he probably is sad and lonely.   " half lost, his small possessions swim. " this doesn't mean his clothes are small it means more that he doesn't have a lot of clothes therefor they are floating in the water from the washing machine. This stanza is a negative and sad ztanza about a lonely man washing his few clothes.

Tone And mood

The night was dark and gloomy and by the campfire all that could be heard was the crackle of the fire. I suddenly realised these peanuts are making me thirsty.

The air was cold and the mountain was empty. All that could be heard was the sound of my board crashing into the snow.

I suddenly realised, where's my sister!

Tone is the way something is said.
Mood is the way somethings is described. (Setting)
